“no, my dear,” he said at last, softly, knowing it was only the truth. “i would rather have you than any ship in the navy.”

I don’t like when people ship Brienne and Jaime. Can’t we have a strong badass woman without all the fans shipping them with every man they meet?
This ‘argument’ is one of my biggest pet peeves, as it is the lazy go-to for people who don’t like the ship. It’s fine not to like it! Look, I am a Brienne fan first, and I adored her well before I started shipping them. I ship them because of their STORY, not because they are a woman and a man within close physical proximity. They go through a horrific experience together, where they reluctantly lean on each other and grow to respect and TRUST each other. They have chemistry, common interests, and consider each other to have physically attractive traits. They both deserve happiness, and if they could make each other happy (putting GRRM’s probable tragic future aside for the moment)…. why not? Women can be in a relationship, have sex, and still be powerful and independent, and Brienne is a far more complex character than ‘badass’. Nikolaj said it himself, that their experience sets the stage for what could be a beautiful relationship. If there is a reason to ship a pairing, this is why.
Sorry. I usually avoid debate but I had to speak up. I’ll stop now.

Game of Thrones ✦The Exhibition: Jaime & Brienne
Having pledged her loyalty to Catelyn Stark after the murder of Renly Baratheon, Brienne of Tarth is tasked with returning Jaime Lannister to King’s Landing in the hopes that he might be traded for Catelyn’s daughters. At the journey’s outset, Jaime sought to torture Brienne and find a moment to reclaim his freedom and bring her down. When the two are taken prisoner by Roose Bolton’s henchman Locke, Jaime and Brienne find themselves fighting together for their very survival. The loss of Jaime’s sword hand forces both Jaime and Brienne to see the Kingslayer in a new light, leading to a grudging respect and the beginnings of something far more profound.
